Alexander Zverev recently won the Bett1Hulks Indoors title at the ATP Cologne Open 2020. In the finals, he defeated Felix Auger Aliassime 6-3, 6-3 to add the 12th title to his trophy collection. The World No. 7 Zverev recently said in an interview that he loved to play in Germany, his homeland. The stadiums at Cologne impressed him, and he was sure that the ATP finals and the Laver Cup would take place there soon.

“When I saw the stadium here in Cologne, my first thought was why the ATP Finals were awarded to Turin and not take place here. My second thought was, when are we going to bring the Laver Cup here?” said Zverev.

The ATP Finals 2020 will take place in London, United Kingdom. The official venue is the O2 arena. They will kick-off from November 15 and go on till November 22, 2020. In 2021, they will take place in Turin, Italy. The Laver Cup, on the other hand, will not take place this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will take place in Boston, the United States, from September 24 to 26 in 2021. Both tournaments are played on indoor hard courts.

The 23-year-old Zverev even pointed to his management Team8 and said, “Wherever you are, there will be a conversation.” Team8 was the co-organizer of the ATP Cologne Open 2020. Zverev’s response makes it evident that he really wants Cologne to host the ATP Finals and the Laver Cup soon.

It must have been a special moment for the German player to win the title at his home. The draw of the ATP Cologne 2 is up and the US Open 2020 runner-up could face the Italian Open 2020 runner-up Diego Schwartzman.

“It’s always something special for me to play in Germany and win a title. Even if there weren’t any fans there, I felt the support from home and had the feeling of playing in Germany. I hope many people watched the final on TV and noticed it,” said the cheerful Zverev.

The 23-year-old wishes to continue his good form and win more accolades. He still has a few tournaments ahead before the end of the 2020 tennis season and wishes to finish them on a high.

“Of course, I hope to be able to keep this up. It was more difficult this year because we played fewer tournaments. Cologne was only my third ATP event this year, apart from the ATP Cup. I still have a few tournaments ahead of me and I hope to continue to show good tennis,” concluded a hopeful Zverev.
