

In a mission to empower women in healthcare, WTA partnered with its lead global sponsor and official health partner, Hologic, to spread awareness about healthcare issues for Women. In a joint event, a panel of prominent tennis personalities engaged in a discussion with healthcare experts. The panel of tennis stars included Former world number one Martina Navratilova, Sloane Stephens, and Madison Keys.

Women’s health expert, Dr. Jessica Shepherd moderated the discussion.
Madison Keys on the importance of self-care
Former world number 7 Madison Keys also gave her valuable input in the ‘Her Health Advantage’ panel discussion. The American opened up about her way of dealing with mental health and wellness issues.
“I have a therapist that I talk to, and for me, it’s such a valuable resource that I prioritize. Also, being kind to yourself is such an important thing. As women, we sometimes forget to make time for that,” she said.
After the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, many athletes came up and discussed their mental health issues. While the issue was always there, it gained more importance when the four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka came out in public and announced a break from tennis.

However, the issue is getting its due attention now. It was a commendable effort from WTA to create a platform for discussion on it.

Keys stuns Iga Swiatek
As we are not long away from the US Open to start, tennis stars have concluded their preparation for the event. World number 1 Iga Swiatek was also participating in the Cincinnati Masters tournament to prepare herself for the US Open challenge. However, she suffered a shocking defeat to Madison Keys of America.

Playing in the third round of Cincinnati Masters, Keys defeated Swiatek 6-3, 6-4. It was the third time they faced each other. Swiatek won the first two encounters, and it was her first defeat against the American.

With this win, Keys advanced to the Semifinals of the tournament. However, the 27-year-old lost to Petra Kvitová. A brilliant run in the Cincinnati Masters will definitely boost her confidence in the US Open.
