Ever since its release, buying the PS5 has been an arduous task for gamers around the world. Owing to the production shortage, the console is either sold out across every retail store or available at staggering prices like $40,000. While fans are still struggling to get their hands on a new-gen console, it seems like the previous-gen PS4 will also pose identical troubles now.

A native Japanese player uploaded an image of some PS4 consoles at a retail store in Japan. The image shows a notice that claims, “Dear customers: due to the manufacturer ending production, the following products will not be restocked.”

The PS4 models that won’t get a restock now include the 500GB Glacier White, the 1TB Jet Black, the 1TB Glacier White, and the 2TB Jet Black. Alongside these variants, production of the PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White might face a similar halt.

Previous developments that hinted towards Sony discontinuing the PS4

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Sony has indirectly shared its plans to stop the production of the PS4. Back in December, a PlayStation Direct Store listing had claimed that the PS4 Pro is out of stock, and “there are currently no plans to restock this item in the future.”

It is no surprise that the PS4 Pro is still not available for purchase.

In addition to that, PlayStation’s Jim Ryan has time and again dwelled on the new generation of gaming. Even before the launch of the PS5, the PlayStation CEO had clarified that the company “believes in generations”.

The PS5 offers features that overshadow the PS4 by far; naturally, Sony expects more gamers to acknowledge this, and soon shift to the new-gen console.

Will the production of the PS5 increase now?

Sony is yet to respond to the aforementioned news. However, if these claims turn out to be true, there are several implications attached to them. Fans will certainly expect a boost in the production of the PS5, as the console giant could emphasize solely on its latest console, and finally meet its staggering demand.

Furthermore, PlayStation patrons might have a few consoles at their disposal now. This includes some base variants of the PS4 and the brand new PS5.
