It’s Saturday and the women’s French Open 2021 final between Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Barbora Krejcikova tops the headlines. It was the first time they faced each other and the first time they ever were part of a single’s Grand Slam final.

In the end, the Czech star prevailed and emerged as the champion, winning the match 6-1 2-6 6-4, in close to two hours.

Barbora Krejcikova kicks off the French Open 2021 final in style

The Russian player began proceedings in the French Open 2021 final and held serve in the opening game. However, the Czech international was dominant throughout the set and broke Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova during the set’s second, fourth, and sixth games. It took her 32 minutes to wrap the first set, 6-1.

In the following set, the tables were turned as the Russian upped the ante. She was the first one to draw blood in this set, as she broke Barbora Krejcikova. Within 10 minutes into the second set, Pavlyuchenkova was up 3-0. After the seventh game in the set, the Russian took a medical time-out. On resuming play, she broke Barbora to clinch the set 6-2.

In the final set, both athletes exchanged breaks early on but were on serve at 3-3. In the following game, the Russian was broken. After 38 minutes into the final set, Krejcikova was crowned champion, winning the set 6-4. 

However, during the match, there were reactions from some famous personalities concerning this match. Judy Murray, Andy Murray’s mother was the one to lead, followed by others.
