Stan Wawrinka – “It’s Not Enough For Me. I Want More”

The former US Open champion, Stan Wawrinka has been knocked from the Flushing Meadows championship this year. The Swiss fell to the new era contender, Daniil Medvedev 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the US Open 209. 

With his quarterfinal run at the US Open 2019, Stan Wawrinka returns back to the Top 20 ATP rankings. However, Wawrinka wants to win more on the ATP Tour and improving his rankings doesn’t really fulfill his goals.

“Returning to the top 20 is good. But it’s not enough for me. I want more. I am frustrated with this match’s result because it’s me who is losing than him winning it. But he plays very well and he deserves his victory,” Wawrinka said.

In today’s match, couldn’t really sync with his attacking game of tennis and landed up committing unforced errors as much as his winners. “I was moving well. I couldn’t figure out the right time to attack the ball and I was not being patient with my attacking game. I couldn’t let that go either. The first set point was important. But he played very well and I know that he was cramping. So, congratulations to him,” Wawrinka added.

The Swiss, World Number 24 gave it all that he had, but he regrets about squandering the first set point. Upon losing the set point, he also lost his momentum in the battle. “I fought with what I had. I should have never lost that first set point. When I missed that, I missed everything everywhere,” he said.

Stan Wawrinka played a tough battle against the Russian wave of tennis, Medvedev. With this loss, the Swiss player is yet open his victory account against the Russian.

Medvedev continues to flourish on the ATP Tour this year. He reaches his first career Grand Slam semifinals in New York. Last month, he lifted up his first Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati and before that, he was the finalist at Rogers Cup in Montreal. In the semifinals of the Big Apple city, he will either face Roger Federer or Grigor Dimitrov
