Hugo Gaston emerged as a rising star at the French Open. The Frenchman beat Stan Wawrinka in the third round and he nearly beat Dominic Thiem in a nail-biting 5-setter. Even though he was playing some amazing tennis, that was not what people were talking about.

Most of them were concerned about the chinks on display in Thiem’s armor. One fan wrote, “Thiem’s concern, which in my opinion will remain the same until the end of his career, is that on a very average day or when he sees that his power doesn’t make a difference, he doesn’t have a plan B.”

Seeing such comments, Stan Wawrinka was furious. He wanted people to talk less negatively about Thiem and more positively about Gaston as he said,

“Why talk so negatively about Thiem! So what should be mostly positive about Gaston in this game?”

Dominic Thiem Looking To Score

The match against Gaston was certainly tiring but Dominic Thiem overcame the Frenchman’s challenge. Now, he will be preparing for his upcoming matches as he attempts to win his first title at Roland Garros.

The Austrian has already reached 2 finals at the event but he sadly lost both of them to Rafael Nadal. However, that might not happen this year due to the conditions. The weather is a lot cooler with a chance of rain and that has never suited Rafa.

In addition to this, Thiem is also in terrific form as he just won the 2020 US Open last month. Clearly, this is his best opportunity to finally win in Paris, and many are hoping that he will make good use of it.
