World No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas will pair with former doubles World No.1 Nenad Zimonjic to play doubles at the 2020 Rotterdam Open on Monday. The pair will debut as a team at the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam. Tsitsipas is primarily focused on the singles but he also plays doubles alternatively.

The 21-year-old Tsitsipas and 43-year-old Zimonjic will face the No.4 seed Horia Tecau and Jean-Julien Rojer in the round of 16 on 10th February. On the other hand, the No.2 seed Stefanos will aim to win his first singles match in Rotterdam against Hubert Hurkacz.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nenad Zimonjic to debut at Rotterdam Open 2020

Tsitsipas and Zimonjic will make their first appearance as a team when they walk out on the indoor hard courts of Rotterdam. The two have not made any doubles appearance before.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has clinched 4 ATP singles title in his career so far. However, the Greek is yet to open his account in doubles. He will certainly aim to win his maiden doubles title,  pairing with an established doubles player.

On the other hand, Zimonjic is a three-time Grand Slam champion in men’s doubles and five-time Grand Slam champion in mixed doubles. In total, the Serbian has claimed 54 doubles titles in his 25-year-old long career.

Tsitsipas eager to get his first win at the Rotterdam Open

“It’s one of the best indoor tournaments. I’m going to try hard and change a few things to potentially have a breakthrough in Rotterdam,” the next-gen star said in the pre-tournament press conference.

Tsitsipas played his first ATP Tour match in Rotterdam three years ago when he just came out of the juniors. He was awarded a wild card by Tournament Director Richard Krajicek. The memories still bring smiles on Tsitsipas’ face as it was really big for him.

“I’m always happy to be in Rotterdam, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a win here – three years in a row,” he said.
