Transfers is not all about new beginning, some epic stories need endings too. Steven Gerrard admits he may emulate Frank Lampard by ending his career at another club.
With one year left on contract,he newly retired English captain has hinted that he might be tempted to try different footballing experience before hanging up his boots. When asked if he could see himself following New York City FC new boy Lampard to the United States, the 34-year-old said: “One day that might happen to me, I don’t know.
For now though, the Liverpool skipper The newly-retired England captain has a year left on his contract with the Anfield giants, has yet to agree a further extension, and admits he could be tempted to try a different football experience before he hangs up his boots.
When asked if he could see himself following New York City FC new boy Lampard to the United States, the 34-year-old said: “One day that might happen to me, I don’t know.
“I’ve never really discussed it with anyone or thought about it. Maybe one day I would like the chance to go away from Liverpool for a short time and try something different.
“I think Frank has made a great decision. At his age, 36, he’s had a wonderful career and I don’t think he has anything to prove in England in any more.
“He’s broken records with Chelsea and won everything with them. I think it’s a perfect move for him. But I haven’t given it much thought. That carrot hasn’t been dangled yet.”
But the Reds captain still has finished at Anfield. Despite revealing that there have been no talks of extension of his contract, he is remaining calm about the situation and is focused on fulfilling his life long dream, the premier league title which he believes it’s possible this season despite the devastating departure of Luis Suarez.
He was quoted “I still believe we can be involved in the title race. I believe if we had Luis Suarez, we’d be favourites. We played some incredible stuff last season, and we are a very, very good side – don’t forget that.”
It sounds like Gerrard is preparing Reds fans for an exit then at the end of the season, or perhaps this is just a ploy to motivate his teammates for another fight for the title. We have to wait and see.
