The debate about the ‘Greatest of All Time’ takes place often among fans and pundits in almost every sport. In tennis, fans and followers have long winding discussions about the big three, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. It is not surprising if you take a look at their astounding records: Federer has won 20 slams, with Nadal at 22 and Djokovic at 24. Their number of titles puts them above any other player in history or currently on tour. A British former tennis player recently stated why he chose Federer over Djokovic. His opinion did not settle well with Nole fans unsurprisingly, as they hounded him for it.
This is not the first time a tennis personality has stated their opinion by talking about the popularity factor. Stefanos Tsitsipas also did it once when discussing who he would pick for his greatest pick. But the Greek player did not receive backlash for it.

British tennis personality criticized for snubbing Novak Djokovic in favor of Roger Federer
Tim Henman recently stated that for him, Roger Federer is the best player to pick up the racket. When talking about impact and popularity, Henman stated that there was no debate, and that Federer was the best. While Djokovic has better numbers, he believes that many will pick the Swiss Maestro because of his contribution to the sport.
🐐 Tim Henman on the GOAT debate:
“If you are talking about impact and popularity, it is a one-horse race and there is no doubt that Federer is the most popular player that has ever played our sport.
Overall, Djokovic is the best of all-time on the numbers, but many will still… pic.twitter.com/jzDysVhKmQ

His statement did not settle well with Nole fans, as they hounded Henman in the comment section of the X post.
One fan went straight to the point of winning the big tournaments and sarcastically said that they forgot popularity wins grand slams.
Forgot popularity wins you grand slams. https://t.co/09usR81LO6

Angered by the immense pay disparity between the players on the top and those out of the top 100, one fan made light of Federer’s popularity while saying that he only made himself a billionaire while other players were still struggling. They also talked about Djokovic’s PTPA making a difference in the sport.
what impact? He just made himself a billionaire while less than 200 professional players who can make a living from this sport…No, the establishment's puppet doesn't mean influence, it's the PTPA found by Novak are really making a difference.👋 https://t.co/B1P36CEwtV

A user talked about how the GOAT used to be Pete Sampras and how Djokovic will eventually become the undeniable GOAT with other players not coming close to the Djoker.
Pete Samprass was once considered GOAT. It wont be long before everyone else is a footnote next to Novak. https://t.co/P7c1sxB6lq

One fan stated that Henman was confused. They reasoned that when Federer fans are long gone, the only thing left from this era will be the records, pointing to the Djoker as the greatest. They also said that it will be a difficult time for Fedal fans before Carlos Alcaraz breaks the records of the big three.
Tim is confused because in 30 years, many Roger friends will no longer be with us. Whatever will be left of this period will be numbers and stats. Unfortunately for Tim, Novak has better numbers than Roger. He also has better numbers than Rafa. It will be tough for Fedal fans for…

Another fan said that Djokovic’s numbers will speak for themselves when Federer devotees are gone.
When Roger and his synchophants are dust…Djokovic's record will remain untarnished.

One fan was a little less harsh as they said no other sport separates “best of all time” from “greatest of all time”. The titles are identical, and the simple fact is that people don’t want to change their favorite when someone better comes along.
In no other sport to pundits try and separate “best of all time” from “greatest of all time.” These titles are clearly identical! Its just that some people don’t want to change their favourite when a better player comes along and overtakes him.

Another fan talked about the beauty of the sport, being that Djokovic will be remembered as the best because of the numbers. For a player to change that fact, they must break his records.
The beauty about this thing is that in years to come, people will ONLY remember DJOKOVIC as the BEST, the MOST FAMOUS and GOAT of tennis. For anyone to change that, he has to change the numbers.

One user dissected Henman’s comments further. They said that if the GOAT debate was based on popularity, each era would have its greatest. Additionally, if statistics didn’t matter, Nadal or Federer would never be in the debate because many players before them inspired millions around the world.
It's not based on popularity. If so, every generation will have their own GOAT. If stats didn't matter, Federer/Rafa would never be GOATs, because there were so many before them that inspired millions (Bjorn, Lendl, Sampras, Connors, Agassi, etc).
GOAT is based on stats alone.— Ricky_Ric 🐺🇦🇪 🇷🇺 (@RickyRi77146271) October 2, 2023
One tennis fan talked about how experts must discuss the debate every time Djokovic wins. They also said that the popularity and impact discussion is ‘nauseating’ and that Djokovic is the best regardless of the popularity of the player.
All these fake experts have to talk couple of weeks after every Novak win. It is nauseating. You can keep your manufactured impact and popularity. Novak is greatest tennis player and there are people beyond your controlled ecosystem who love him immensely

For Henman, Federer is the undeniable greatest player in the history of the sport. The former British player is not the only tennis personality who picked the Swiss Maestro over the Serbinator.
