Sulieman Benn was named West Indies’ Player of the Year for 2013-14 season in Kingston on Tuesday. The lanky left-arm spinner took 28 wickets in 5 Test matches at an average of 25.03 between October 2013 and September 2014 which was the period of consideration for the awards.

Kraigg Brathwaite was awarded the Test Player of the Year. Brathwaite averaged 74.12 in the five Tests during this period for his 593 runs, which included a double century against Bangladesh.

Test captain and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin was named the ODI Player of the Year. During the period, Ramdin scored 445 runs in 11 ODIs at an impressive average of 63.57, including two centuries and a half century.

Samuel Badree was named the T20I Player of the Year for 19 scalps in 12 matches, at a meagre average of 12.36 and economy as low as 5 runs per over.

Jermaine Blackwood was named the Emerging Player of the Year while Stefanie Taylor was named the Women’s Player of the Year.

West Indies cricketing knights Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Andy Roberts, Sir Curtly Ambrose, Sir Wes Hall and Sir Richie Richardson were also awarded for their contributions.

Former Guyana Cricket Board president and WICB director, Chetram Singh, was given the WICB’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his service while Renford Pinnock, the former Jamaica wicketkeeper/batsman, received the equivalent award from the players union.
