Over the years, the rise of battle royale games has been phenomenal. Games like PUBG, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Call of Duty Warzone have changed the face of multiplayer gaming. Warzone is still relatively new, considering it launched in March 2020, but already has over 75 million players worldwide. On the other hand, Fortnite has been around for more than three years and has over 350 million global players.
Both Fortnite and Warzone bring something unique to the table in terms of gameplay, game modes, and content. Although, there has usually been a downwards pattern in a battle royale game’s popularity, as it tends to decrease over the years. The developers obviously do their best and keep releasing new content to keep things interesting. But what is the future of these two games? Popular Twitch streamer SypherPK recently commented on this in an exclusive interview.

SypherPK on the Fortnite and Warzone
“What are your thoughts on the future of both these games?”(Fortnite and Warzone).
“So I want I wanted to take a small break from Fortnite, because we were, you know, playing for such a long time. And I think the time when I announced that I was going to start playing Warzone was before season 4, or before season 3. So things were pretty dry on Fortnite, and I really wanted a change of pace. So I started playing Warzone. And then once the new season came out, I kind of started getting back into Fortnite. And that might happen in the future, you know, if Fortnite updates slow down, I’ll always try other games and kind of diversify even more than before. But I’ll always play and like Fortnite, as long as I still enjoy it, you know, I’ll make content for it, even if I take small breaks here and there.

This is an interesting point by Sypher. With a new season of Fortnite dropping almost every 3 months, it becomes rather difficult for players to adapt to it. Every new season makes tons of changes to the map and the weapons mix as well. Additionally, there are also changes made to the gameplay which directly affect the players. This makes it difficult for anyone to keep up with the game’s progression.

“Warzone also has a bright future. You know, there’s a little bit of question about their installment of Cold War, you know, they’re gonna pass on the franchise to the new Call of Duty developer, and they’re going to transfer Warzone into Cold War. That is a, you know, people are a little bit worried about that, because they’re worried that this really good thing that Warzone is, could potentially be ruined. But if they pull off a good transition and Cold War’s a success, Warzone will continue to be extremely popular for years to come.”
Warzone is completely different from Fortnite. Although, Sypher’s main concern is with the game’s transition into Black Ops Cold War. This is a legitimate concern considering Warzone is currently based on the mechanics of Modern Warfare. Adding Black Ops into the mix could be tricky which could potentially ruin the game. There aren’t any strong updates regarding the nature of this transition yet. Hopefully, for the sake of the game, Activision will ensure that it is a smooth process.

SypherPK seems pretty optimistic about both the games having a bright future. In the case of Fortnite, it has an extremely young player base, which is a huge advantage to Epic. As for Warzone, the game has only been around for 8 months and has a long way to go. With the advent of Black Ops Cold War, its popularity is only going to increase even further.
