The Swiss tennis player, Belinda Bencic was born to Slovak parents and she began playing tennis at the age of two. She also received coaching from Martina Hingis’ mother and coach Melanie Molitor from 2004 to 2012.
Presently she trains under her father Ivan Bencic. Bencic hits the ball early and plays a smart game. She has a great backhand and skilfully returns the serves.
On-court Achievements
During the US Open 2014, Belinda Bencic made it to the quarterfinals at the age of 17. She became the youngest quarterfinalist at the US Open since Hingis in 1997. Over there she defeated the top ten players, Angelique Kerber and Jelena Jankovic.
The same year she reached the WTA finals in Tianjin and in 2014, Bencic was declared the WTA Newcomer of the Year. In 2015, she won her first title at Eastbourne International where she won over Agnieszka Radwanska.
In Canada, she produced her best performance of the year and won the title there. Bencic defeated World Number one, Serena Williams in the semifinals and Williams entered the tournament with only one loss during the 2015 season and she won the first three Grand Slam tournaments of the year.
Bencic won the Hopman Cup in 2018 and 2019 and she teamed up with the tennis great, Roger Federer both the years.In 2019, she won the title in Dubai. Till date, she has earned about $4,826,063.
