French tennis player Benoit Paire kick-started his career in 2007 at the ITF level before his big break in 2009, a wildcard for the French Open qualifying.

A year later, he began playing at a Challenger level and he began to make strides. In the same year, he made it as far as the second round during the US Open. He managed to best Rainer Schuttler, before being downed by Feliciano Lopez in five sets. He also made his Grand Slam debut in 2008, at the French Open.
