Makhachev has grown up and trained with the legend Khabib Nurmagomedov. As of October 2022, Makhachev sits at #4 in the UFC lightweight rankings. The young fighter is proficient in Combat Sambo, where he was the 2016 World Champion.

Makhachev signed a four-fight contract when he made his smacking debut in the UFC. As aforementioned, his first opponent in the UFC was Leo Kuntz, whom he defeated in a thrilling match via submission in the second round of the bout.
