Iyo Sky kick-started her wrestling career in 2007 as she participated with her sister Mio Shirai in various promotions, including Pro Wrestling Wave, JWP Joshi Puroresu, and Sendai Girls' Pro Wrestling. The sibling duo made headlines owing to their spectacular performance and they went on to win many tag team titles in independent circuits. However, 2011 saw Sky leaving the team to pursue an individual career. Playing in Mexico and Japan, Iyo reached greater heights and ended up winning the title of Stardom Champion a total of six times.

It was in 2017 that her career took an exciting turn as she signed a contract with WWE.
