Jermall Charlo is an American professional boxer and older of the Charlo twins. He competes in the middleweight division, having previously competed in the light-middleweight division.
The self-proclaimed ‘Future of Boxing’ is a two-weight world champion since he held the IBF Junior middleweight title till 2017 and is currently the WBC middleweight champion. As of December 2020, he ranks #2 on The Ring Magazine list and on the TBRB list. He goes by the nickname, ‘Hitman’.
Jermall Charlo started boxing at an early age when his father, who was an amateur boxer, took him and his brother Jermell to the gym when they were 8. The two tried their hands at different sports but eventually gravitated to boxing.
Jermall has an impressive amateur record of 65-6. He chose to stay an amateur boxer for longer in the hopes of representing his country at the Olympics in 2008. However, a toe injury ruled him out from fulfilling his dream.
Charlo madde his professional debut in 2018 with a second-round TKO of Cimarron Davis and has gone on to achieve big things in the sport. Initially he competed in the Junior middleweight division and went on to win the IBF Junior middleweight title in 2015.
He then vacated the IBF title to move up to middleweight and became a menace for the division. In 2019, Charlo took over the 168 lbs division by winning the WBC belt.
The American’s record stands at an impressive 31-0. The unbeaten fighter has won 22 of his fights by knockout which gives him a 70% Knockout rate. His most memorable fights include his fight against Cornelius Bundrage. And in 2020, when he beat Sergiy Derevyanchenko to defend his WBC middleweight belt.
Ahead of his fight against Sergiy Derevyanchenko both Jermall and Jermell teamed up with Troy Candles to raise money for charity. The pair signed a number of the company’s candles and sold them to fans. A large portion of the sales was donated to the charity of the fighters’ choice.
As of December 2020, this is the only reported act of charity that we know about the champion. However, in a recent video he showed his good side when he claimed he would donate food to the homeless.
According to Celebritynetworth.com Jermall Charlo is worth a reported $800,000 as of 2019. His primary source of income is his boxing. However, there is no information as to how much he earns from his fights.
Despite this, his value is set to go up in 2021 with a few big fights lined up.
