Taylor started his career at 15 after a stint with Taekwondo. He enjoyed a successful amateur career with a commonwealth Gold in his home country in 2014, being the pick of the bunch. He had won a Silver medal the previous time around.

Taylor turned pro in 2015 and quickly made his mark in the sport. He worked his way up first to the IBF world title in 2019 and then the WBA title in his very next fight. He has since had one successful defense of the unified titles against Apinun Khongsong.
