Karl-Anthony Towns is a six-foot-eleven center who plays for Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA. He was born on November 15, 1995, in Edison, New Jersey. Towns was the #1 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
Towns’ parents are Karl Towns Sr and Jacqueline Cruz. In 2020, Towns lost his mother and other family members to COVID-19.
He attended St. Joseph High School in his hometown and led his team to a couple of state-titles in 2013 and 2014. After earning a massive reputation as a senior, Towns committed to play for Kentucky as he was already familiar with John Calipari’s coaching. (Calipari coached the Dominican Republic national team in which Towns played).
Towns gained starting privileges as a freshman and fit into Calipari’s coaching system with the Kentucky Wildcats. He played alongside future NBA stars and averaged 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in his first year with the team.
The Wolves’ big man has been quite discreet about his private life, but he went public about his relationship in 2020. Towns’ girlfriend is model Jordyn Woods, who is two years younger than him.
As for his 2K ratings, Towns has been given an overall rating of 90 in the latest edition of the game. The NBA 2K21 creators have designed him to be an inside-out scorer, and he has 28 badges to his name.
The Minnesota Timberwolves used their #1 overall pick to select Towns in the 2015 NBA Draft. So far, he’s fit in as a foundational player but is yet to enjoy vast playoff experience.
Towns has lived up to his expectations as an individual in the NBA, and his numbers serve as evidence. The towering center averaged 18.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and shot 54.2% from the field in his first year, which earned him the 2016 Rookie of the Year Award.
Towns’ two-way ability is a boon to the Timberwolves who are struggling to create an impact in the West. He is a master rebounder and a dominant scorer and has earned his name in the team’s history books.
He holds the record as the Timberwolves player with the most points in a season when he notched up 2061 points during the 2016/17 regular-season. He is also the youngest player since Shaquille O’Neal to record 50 points and 15 rebounds in a game.
Towns has recorded triple-doubles in his career and has a career-high of 56 points with the Wolves.
Towns is an incredible player who has been consistent with his stats. His numbers reflect how dominant he’s been, but the center hasn’t enjoyed much collective success. Here are his career-stats updated till the 2019/20 regular-season:
Towns has also signed several endorsement deals in his career and some of them include Nike, 2K Sports, Gatorade, Beats By Dre, and Jack Link’s Beef Jerky. Forbes estimates he made $3 million from endorsements in 2020.
Towns has made several charitable donations on his behalf and continues to give back to society. Back in 2016, he donated a Kia Sorento, the prize for his Rookie of the Year Award, to the Minnesota Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
He accomplished a heartwarming gesture during 2017 Thanksgiving as the Wolves center donated $10,000 to the House of Charity Ford Center in Minneapolis.
Furthermore, Towns made a sizeable $100,000 donation to Mayo Clinic in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis in March 2020.
Towns is a Nike athlete, but he’s yet to receive his signature shoe. The talented center had been sporting Hyperdunks previously, but he was recently seen donning the ‘Nike Air Zoom BB NXT’ on court.
