Michael Chiesa is a veteran of the UFC’s welterweight division. He is an American mixed martial artist and has been professionally fighting since 2008.
He won the inaugural The Ultimate Fighter: Live by submitting Al Iaquinta. Now, as of 2021, he has been ranked at #8 in the UFC welterweight rankings.
The ‘Maverick’ started his UFC career in the year 2013, where he was up against Anton Kuivanen at UFC 157. He started his career with a win against his opponent via rear-naked choke submission.
Later he defeated fighters like Jim Miller, Francisco Trinaldo, Rafael do Anjos, Diego Sanchez, Beneil Dariush, and Carlos Condit to name a few.
His last bout was against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 166. He displayed a terrific performance and beat the former lightweight champion via unanimous decision. He is scheduled to fight Neil Magny on January 20, 2021, at UFC Fight Night 186.
‘Maverick’ has a UFC record of 10-4.
Chiesa holds a fighting style that is unique in nature. He is a submission specialist and 11 of his 17 wins have come through submission. ‘Maverick’ is yet to win a fight via knockout and has registered six decision wins. This is a testament to his chin as well as his prowess in holds and on the mat.
Apart from that, he has won two Fight of the Night, two Submission of the Night, and one Performance of the Night awards in the UFC. He has also won the LOTC lightweight championship at the Lords of the Cage.
Chiesa won the 2018 December Submission of the Month awarded by MMAJunkie. He tapped Carlos Condit via a kimura in the second round at UFC 232.
