Boxing was never Shawn Porter?s only sport. Growing up, he was an all-conference high-school football standout. However, he switched to boxing and tasted a lot of success as an amateur. He finished with a 276-14 record.
His amateur career includes winning the 2007 World Golden Gloves tournament. His amateur career included notable victories against the likes of Danny Jacobs and Demetrius Andrade.
Porter turned pro after narrowly missing out on Olympic qualification and made his debut in 2008. He took on Norman Joseph and won via a first-round TKO. Porter picked himself back up and worked his way to the top. In 2018 he beat Danny Garcia to become the WBC welterweight champion of the world. Currently, he is the WBC interim champion after beating Sebastian Formella.

His defeats have come against three champions in the form of Kell Brook, Keith Thurman and Errol Spence Jr. Porter fought Adrien Broner at a catchweight. His most recent victory came against Sebastian Formella in 2020.
