Valentina Shevchenko is one of the greatest women fighters to grace the octagon. She started training in Taekwondo at the age of five and eventually transitioned to Muay Thai Kickboxing and Vale Tudo.
After amassing a record of 11-1, Shevchenko made it to the UFC. Although she won her first fight, ‘Bullet’ lost her next bout to Amanda Nunes. To this date, Nunes is one of only two women (the other being Liz Carmouche) to beat the Kyrgyzstani.
Shevchenko racked up two back-to-back wins against Holly Holm and Julianna Peña. After that, she fought Nunes once again for the bantamweight strap. Unfortunately, she lost via a controversial decision.
Nevertheless, the UFC introduced the women’s flyweight division soon after. As a result, Shevchenko returned to her original weight class and submitted Priscila Cachoeira via a rear-naked choke.
She then fought Joanna Jędrzejczyk for the vacant flyweight belt at UFC 231. Like their previous three meetings in amateur Muay Thai, Shevchenko won the match and the belt. Since then, she has defended it four times.
‘Bullet’ has put together a 9-2 UFC record and has claimed three Performance of the Night bonuses.
Shevchenko is an amazing counter-striker with a high fight IQ. Her game is not limited to a single form of martial arts. She is equally talented in every aspect of the game.
Her distance management is one of the best in the game. Besides counter-striking, she can also march down her opponent if needed. Shevchenko can fight anywhere, whether it’s on the ground or on the feet.
The fighter holds a stellar record of 20-3-0 in her career. Apart from being the flyweight champion, Shevchenko has the most consecutive wins in the division.
She has also won 2020 Female Fighter of the year by BT Sport and CombatPress.com.
Shevchenko banked her highest paycheck ($300,000) after brutally knocking out Jessica Eye at UFC 238. She has made over $1,689,000 in her UFC career according to The Sports Daily.
She has endorsed GuardLab, Brownells, Inc., Smith & Wesson Corp., Dapper Scrappers, LUCHO Shoes, Girls with Guns Clothing, and VEOSPORT in the past.
