Tackling with injuries since Shanghai Masters 2018, the Argentine tennis player  Juan Martin del Potro has still not recovered to his former state of fitness. In the first half of 2019, he was plagued with injuries. Despite that, the ‘Tower of Tandil’ played some epic matches on the tour. And now in 2020, Del Potro delays his return to the circuit. His injury is persisting from Queens’ Championships 2019 after he won against Canada’s Denis Shapovalov. Post that setback, Del Potro went to Spain for the knee surgery. It’s been more than six months to that surgery but the Argentine has still not recovered. Del Potro can still feel the pain in his right knee and hence he is reluctant to play professional tennis. His return to the circuit is yet to be announced.

How serious was Juan Martin Del Potro’s knee surgery?

At the Queen’s Club Championships 2019 it was stated that it was his last triumph on the ATP circuit. He wouldn’t be able to step on the professional tennis court again. Fortunately, he regained his strength after undergoing the ‘career-threatening’ knee surgery and began practicing.

Withdrawals in 2019

In 2019, Del Potro confirmed his appearance at Intrum Stockholm Open in Sweden and the Erste Bank Open 500 in Austria. However, his knee pains created a hindrance and he couldn’t feature at the European events.  The Argentine was scheduled to play an exhibition match against the Swiss legend, Roger Federer in Buenos Aires but again his knee problems obstructed him from playing high-level tennis.
