He defeated Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 6-4 in Doha’s opener on Tuesday and now he sets up a clash against Aljaz Bedene in the next round. Stan Wawrinka on Australia’s calamity

Wawrinka will be flying to Australia in a few days time for the first Slam of the year. And the bushfire blaze in the island country has shattered the entire world. The Swiss addressed his concern for the same. “I’ve been looking at what’s happening like everybody. It’s really sad to see what’s happening there. It’s a big disaster for the country, for everybody there. So hopefully it’s going to go better soon,” he said.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka is also following the tennis happening presently taking place in Australia. He caught sight of some snippets from the ultimate ‘service-exhibition’ match between Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas on Tuesday at ATP Cup 2020.

“They had some great matches,” he added. “Today was Kyrgios against Tsitsipas. I watched a bit. There are some good matches from the first tournament of the year, so it’s always nice to see that.”

“I’m really happy with the first match of the season, after a few months without playing matches. I’ve been practicing well and arrived early here to be ready for the first match. I think the level was good. I was really focused and moved well,” Wawrinka said.
