Fashion is a big thing for me,” said Amanda Anisimova earlier this year in an interview with Vogue. It’s safe to say that she has been upholding that statement, keeping her half a million followers entertained with stunning on and off-court looks. However, a noticeable part of her fashion remains her jewellery.

Last year, Anisimova joined hands with Tiffany & Co. and has been flaunting striking pieces from their collection at almost every major since then. Ahead of this year’s US Open, Anisimova showcased a new collection with the luxury jewellery brand, flaunting the jewels in a photoshoot with her match kit. However, it caught the attention of the fans for all the wrong reasons.

Tennis Channel shared pictures of Anisimova’s photoshoot on X and even though the jewelry was to be the main focus, fans were irritated by the digital modifications made to the photos, claiming excessive airbrushing had diminished Anisimova’s natural freckles and reduced her beauty.

The Tiffany partnership was a marquee feather in Anisimova’s cap, which she secured after her run to the Wimbledon final last year. Wearing them at this year’s US Open would complete a full circle for her, as that’s where she wore the pieces for the first time last year.

However, poor editing is something fans have never hesitated to call out. Earlier this year, the WTA released promotional photographs featuring Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina, as both were slated to face off in the final of the WTA 1000 event in Dubai. However, what grabbed fans’ attention online was that Pegula’s image had been heavily edited, making her waist and arms look thinner. The American herself commented on the picture, taking it in a light-hearted manner.

“Thank you for giving me the waist of my dreams but I think pieces of my arm are also missing not sure what happened here”, said Pegula on X.

Fans were also quick to notice the heavily edited image of Serena Williams that featured on PEOPLE Magazine in 2016, in the issue titled, World’s Most Beautiful. The photo was later swapped after massive backlash.

Hence, it is only fair that fans were unhappy with the heavily edited pictures of Anisimova.

Fans Unhappy With Airbrushed Images of Amanda Anisimova

After the post went viral, some fans claimed that the image completely altered the American’s appearance. “Airbrushing the woman into a different person is crazy”, said a fan.

Other fans echoed the same, with one of them saying, “Why is this photo so airbrushed. Couldn’t even recognize Amanda”.

“She reminds me of Kurnikova in these photos”, said one fan, while another stated, “She has natural beauty- no enhancement needed!!”

Another fan directed their anger at Tennis Channel, as they were the ones who had shared the pictures on their social media page in the first place. “I can’t block the tennis channel but I may”, said a fan.

Irrespective of the backlash, her attention would now be towards the US Open, which is only a few days away. Anisimova had an average outing in the warm-up events with a fourth-round exit in Toronto and a quarterfinal run in Cincinnati, where she lost to Pegula. Reuniting with her former coach, Rick Vleesehouwers, will give the American a boost ahead of New York, which she will need, as she has to defend many points from her runner-up finish last year.
