Eighth-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi called off his career in 2006, and out the ‘Big Three’ in tennis, the 50-year-old American has locked-horns with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Agassi played against the Spaniard twice, once in Canada in 2005, and then at Wimbledon 2006. And on both occasions, the legendary tennis player lost to the young muscle-man from Mallorca.

When it comes to choosing between Nadal and Federer, Agassi puts Rafa a step ahead than his arch-rival Federer. 19-time Slam champion fought against Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray and amassed his major titles while they were at their prime. 

“I’d put Nadal number one, Federer number two. It’s just remarkable to me what he has done, and he has done it all during Federer’s prime. Nadal had to deal with Federer,  Djokovic, Murray in the golden age of tennis. He has done what he has done, and he’s not done yet,” Agassi to Bild.

The American played against Federer eleven times in his career and Agassi was successful in beating the Swiss for the first three times. One of them came at US Open 2001, while Federer was playing his first-ever pre-quarterfinal match at Flushing Meadows. Back then, it was 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 one-sided loss for the Swiss.

But after Federer’s loss in Miami to Agassi, the Swiss maestro went on to win the next eight matches against the American legend.

“Federer, without doubt,” Agassi answered the GOAT question. “Nobody stood out from their opponents on the court as much as he did. I don’t think I would have had a chance against him at my best. I played against him in the final of the 2005 US Open. I won a set – more was not possible.”

Swiss legend Roger Federer has almost played against at least five different generations of tennis and continues to be the best in all phases of the sport. He’s the only active player to hold score a century of ATP titles.
