German star Alexander Zverev made his country proud today at the ATP Cup. In a thrilling contest, he beat Canada’s Denis Shapovalov to secure a victory for Germany in their first match at the event.
In contrast to his performance last year, Sascha played incredibly well. At the 2020 edition of the ATP Cup, the German had played three matches and had ended up losing all of them. He had also admitted that this performance wasn’t great at all, which is why he wanted to do better this year.
“Last year I played horrible at the ATP Cup. I wanted to get a win for my country this time,” said Zverev after his win.

Alexander Zverev Talks About His Brother
Captaining Germany at the ATP Cup is Sascha’s brother Mischa. In the post-match interview, Sascha was asked how he feels about this. He said,
“He was annoying me a lot… No, I am kidding. My brother is doing a fantastic job, to be honest… He’s been fantastic during training as well, he played with us as well. So, he’s still on the way back a little bit on Tour and it’s great to have him here.”

Zverev Faces A Tough Challenge Ahead
Shapovalov was a very tough opponent, but Sascha succeeded in beating him. Unfortunately, things are not getting easier for him, as he will be facing a huge challenge in the form of Novak Djokovic tomorrow.
In their head-to-head, Sascha trails Djokovic 2-4. In addition to that, he is facing the Serb in Melbourne where he has won a record 8 Australian Open titles.
