“Bad News”- David Goffin Tests Positive for COVID-19 After French Open 2020 Exit

David Goffin has recently tested positive for COVID-19. The Belgian tennis professional player was all set to play at the St. Petersburg Open 2020. But, now due to coronavirus, the World No.13 had to withdraw himself from the tournament. He posted the news on his Instagram story informing fans.

“Bad News! Due to a positive result at my COVID test, I am forced to withdraw from Saint Petersburg,” informed the 29-year-old.

The Belgian lost to Jannik Sinner in the very first round of the French Open 2020. At the US Open 2020, he lost to Denis Shapovalov in the Round of 16 stage. 2020 hasn’t been an ideal year for Goffin. He didn’t even manage to reach beyond the second round at the Italian Open 2020. What has made it worse for him is the coronavirus.

Recovery will certainly take some time. It will not be the same for Goffin to come back to training straight away. But he is sure that if everything goes well, he will be able to make a comeback in the European Open 2020 taking place in Antwerp, Belgium. The ATP Tour 250 tournament will take place from 19th to 25th October 2020.

“I feel good up to now. I will quarantine and if everything goes well, I will be back in Antwerp,” admitted a hopeful Goffin.

The Belgian even acknowledged the support of his fans and thanked them for their motivation.

“Thanks for your support guys,” wrote Goffin on Instagram with 2 sad emojis.

David Goffin will surely be looking for any future opportunity. Clearly, he hasn’t performed too well in 2020. He is a much better player than what numbers reveal about him this year. With the European Open 2020 taking place at his home this time, he will certainly be looking forward to end the tournament on a great high.
