Egyptian tennis player, Youssef Hossam, has been found guilty of violating the anti-corruption code between the years 2015 to 2019. 21-year-old Hossam was involved in eight cases of match-fixing and six cases of facilitating gambling.
The authorities have charged Hossam with two cases of soliciting other players to not use their best efforts. Players have reported him for such approaches three times. He denied any wrongdoing in two of those three charges. All this despite the authorities catching him red-handed. Altogether, he has 21 counts of such breaches against him. Consequently, the Tennis Integrity Unit has dismissed the Egyptian from the professional tour, starting in May 2020.

Incidentally, two years ago, the officials also passed a sentence against Hossam’s brother, Karim. They charged him with multiple instances of match-fixing offenses, resulting in a lifetime ban on the player.
“Mr. Hossam conspired with other parties to carry out an extensive campaign of betting-related corruption at the lower levels of professional tennis. This involved 21 breaches of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program,” Tennis Integrity Unit stated.
“As a result of his conviction, Mr. Hossam is now permanently excluded from competing in or attending any sanctioned tennis event organized. Or recognized by the governing bodies of the sport.”
Former World Number 291 Hossam was amongst the best players from his nation. He has won a total of 9 Futures titles. Furthermore, he was one of the three players from Egypt to crack the ATP Top 1000. Also, he had reached a career-high ranking of number eight in the world rankings of the juniors category.
Tennis player Joao Souza’s scandal
In the month of January, Brazilian professional Joao Souza was handed a lifetime ban from the sport over match-fixing issues. Moreover, the officials also slapped a $200,000 fine on the former World Number 69. He has qualified for Grand Slams several times in his career. However, the Portuguese failed to win a single Grand Slam match.
