Miami Open 2021: John Isner Stuns Felix Auger-Aliassime and Wins Two Consecutive Matches Over Past 7 Months

In the Round of 32 of the 2021 Miami Open, rising star Felix Auger-Aliassime faced off against John Isner. The 2 players had met only once before, at the same event, with Isner coming out on top. Felix was looking to get his revenge this time, but unfortunately, John didn’t let him do so as he won 7-6(5) 7-6(5)

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs John Isner: The First Set

The first set of the match was one filled with exceptional serving. Neither player was able to find an opportunity to break the other and hence, the first set went into a tiebreaker.

In the tiebreaker, Isner raced to a 4-1 lead and went on to secure three set points. Felix was able to save 2 of them, but Isner converted his last to win the set 7-6(5). At this point, the pressure was all on the young Canadian.

The Second Set

The second set of the match was an important one for Felix and he started it off with a strong hold on serve. He was able to put some pressure on the Isner serve but he was still unable to earn himself a break point.

Like the first one, the second set also went to a tiebreaker as both players were not able to find break points. Isner took an early lead once more and won the match 7-6, 7-6. This was the exact same score as their previous encounter, which shows how competitive their matches have been.

It was an unfortunate loss for Felix Auger Aliassime, who was looking to achieve big things in Miami. However, he is only 20 years old and has many years ahead of him to win the biggest of titles.
