On Wednesday the tennis tour announced the resumption of tennis in mid-August this year, after a prolonged break of nearly six months. Tennis world got extremely excited upon receiving the news and so was World Number one Novak Djokovic.

“I’m extremely happy and excited to see that all the tournaments, especially Grand Slams, are organizing their events,” Djokovic told Tennis Legends podcast.

The Serbian star is yet to drop a match this year on the singles track. And now he is extra motivated and excited to restart the tour.

However, tennis won’t be carried out in the same manner as always. The new norms in society have compelled tennis to evolve. Following that US Open has laid down strict measures amid the pandemic and Novak hopes their regulations are eased down in the upcoming weeks.

The tournament has allowed two teammates per player. All the players will be staying in the same hotel and some players from specific nations have to quarantine themselves. Also, strict regulations are laid down inside the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows.

“I think that a lot of people were skeptical. Especially for the US events considering what the US went through as a country during this pandemic. So a lot of people, including myself, were quite skeptical about whether it would happen or not,” he said.

“Obviously the regulations and measures as of today are quite strict, I must say. With quarantine and with some players, especially those from South America, not being able to travel out of their countries to come to the States. Hopefully, that will change. The ATP and the USTA, everyone is working on it. The worst-case scenario is that it remains like this, but there is time,” he added.

The Serb hopes that everything will be back to normal and every eligible tennis player gets an opportunity to participate at US Open 2020. “This is very, very important because this is the foundation of the ATP and the foundation of international tennis,” Novak said.

Even if every eligible player gets to participate, the fans won’t be allowed this year. Also, the US Open has dropped its wheelchair edition this year.

This weekend Novak Djokovic will be playing in Zadar, Croatia as part of the Adria Tour event led by him.
