World Number seven Alexander Zverev parted ways with his coach Ivan Lendl in July 2019. Their league was ended haphazardly as Zverev wasn’t aware of Lendl’s departure from his team. Sascha learned it via social media that Lendl will be no longer working with him.

Since then, he has been training under his father Alexander Zverev Sr and under his tutelage, he earned his ticket to semifinals of a Grand Slam in Melbourne this year. So far, it has been his best career performance at Majors.

And now, Zverev is trying to consolidate his smooth career by joining hands with former tennis player from Spain David Ferrer. The Spaniard hung his racquet in Madrid last year and bid goodbye to professional tennis. (The following information has been translated from a Spanish publication, MARCA).

In the upcoming few weeks, Ferrer will spend time on the tennis courts with Sascha Zverev. Following that, they will decide whether to continue their partnership or not.

Ironically, Ferrer concluded his tennis career against Zverev in the round-of-16 match at Mutua Madrid Open 2019. Post his retirement, Ferrer was announced as the new tournament director of the ATP 500 event Barcelona Open. If the duo get along together, it will be Ferrer’s first-ever coaching venture.

Alexander Zverev and Juan Carlos Ferrero’s alliance in 2017

Since a very young age, Zverev has been trained by parents, his parents are tennis professionals and primary coaches of Sascha and his brother Mischa. During the summer of 2017, Zverev signed his coaching league with former World Number one Juan Carlos Ferrero. Their partnership concluded due to a fight, also Ferrero criticized Zverev’s coaching team.

“We had a kind of a fight in Australia after the Australian Open, which is fine when it involves me and him. I have those kind of arguments [with other team members] and we are still working fine,” Zverev stated in March 2018.

“That argument there involved my whole team and there was a moment where he was very disrespectful towards everybody in my team and that’s why I had to stop the relationship.”

At present, Alexander Zverev was seen violating the self-isolation rules. He was partying on Monaco’s beach and has earned enough criticism from the tennis world.
