The coronavirus pandemic has locked everyone in their houses and everyone is self-quarantined. Amidst of all the havoc, three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka is enjoying the most during the quarantine period. He’s spending quality time with himself and simultaneously taking all the necessary precautions needed.

Certainly, Wawrinka doesn’t support the idea of playing three Slams back-to-back towards the end of the year. The French Open 2020 has been rescheduled in September. And it will commence just seven days after the conclusion of the US Open.

On Tuesday, Stan Wawrinka and Benoit Paire carried out a live-session on Instagram.  The two best friends of the ATP Tour interacted with their fans.

During the interaction, Wawrinka showed his reluctance to play three Slams in a row. “There was no way we would have Wimbledon, US Open and Roland Garros back to back at the end of the summer,” World Number 17 said.

US Open 2020 vs French Open 2020

The Federation of French Tennis postponed Roland Garros on March 17, after the French President Emmanuel Macron announced a lockdown in France. Their decision was taken unilaterally by FFT and the other Slams, ATP or WTA were not incorporated in the decision making body.

French Open is scheduled to take place from September 20 to October 4, 2020. Their new dates overlap with the Laver Cup event (scheduled in the last week of September) and also, US Open didn’t encourage their unilateral decision of rescheduling a Grand Slam.

“At a time when the world is coming together, we recognize that such a decision should not be made unilaterally, and therefore the USTA would only do so in full consultation with the other Grand Slam tournaments, the WTA and ATP, the ITF and our partners, including the Laver Cup,” US Open announced.

Since their inception, the Grand Slams were only canceled during the two World Wars. And in the Open Era tennis, they have never been canceled. The coronavirus pandemic has put off the Tokyo Olympics to the 2021 calendar. And as far as the majors are concerned in 2020, there’s still a little hope for their occurrence this year.
