ATP Tour Announces Good News Regarding Indian Wells 2021

The history of Open Era tennis witnessed uncustomary challenges as the pandemic engulfed the planet with its fatality. In March 2020, due to one confirmed coronavirus case in the whereabouts of Indian Wells, California, it became the first major tennis tournament to be canceled.

Consequently, various tournaments on the tennis track were called off or rescheduled, including the pillars of the sport; French Open which usually takes place during the spring months was held in September 2020, and Wimbledon Championships was called off for the very first time since World War II in 1945.

Earlier this month, the first tournament of American Double Sunshine, Indian Wells 2021, was also scarped off.

Usually, it takes place during the second week of March, but, recently, ATP announced the updated calendar for the next season (only quarter 1) and they have communicated the event in Tennis Paradise will be rescheduled sometime later this year.

Also, the tournament issued its statement regarding the same.

“Due to the impact of COVID-19, the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells will not be held in its customary dates in March. Alternative dates are being assessed for the tournament to potentially take place later in the year,” as stated by the ATP Tour.

However, Indian Wells’ sister tournament Miami Open in Florida will be taking place from March 22 to April 4, 2021.

Moving further, the men’s tour of tennis season 2021 will kick start on January 5 in Delray Beach, USA, and Antalya, Turkey. Two ATP 250 events will be taking place in Melbourne, Australia from January 31 to February 6, 2021.

Simultaneously, the ATP Cup 2021 will be taking place from February 1 to 5, 2021. Finally, the Australian summer of tennis will be concluded by playing the Happy Slam, Australian Open 2021 in Melbourne from February 8-21.

As of now, ATP has confirmed the calendar until April 2021, the European clay-court swing (from week 14) remains unchanged and events will continue to take place as per their schedule (unless certain regulations implemented by the local authorities.)
