Initially, the organizers wanted players to arrive in December in order to finish quarantine and play events leading up to the 1st Major of 2021. However, this has been made impossible due to a recent order.
“Late last night, the Victorian Government advised us that we will not be able to quarantine in December. We are currently seeking further details on what this means for the first 2 weeks of January and whether we wil be able to run tournaments during this time,” said Craig Tiley.

There is still no clear plan for the Melbourne Grand Slam and Titley apologized for this uncertainty. He also assured the players that they will have the information as soon as possible.
“As soon as we have the first arrival date for quarantining in Melbourne, we will be able to provide all the information and support you need to get there. We have secured the services of our travel agency to help book flights and we have had assurances that the visa process will be as simple as possible,” Tiley said.
Due to the uncertainties, fan may wonder whether the Australian Open will be canceled. That is extremely unlikely as we saw events take place in 2020 despite the pandemic. The organizers will have a plan soon in order for the event to take place successfully in January.
