The 2020 tennis season has not been an ideal one due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many events were canceled and others were forced to have restrictions. Since the virus is still spreading, events like the 2021 Australian Open will also have regulations.

There has been a lot of discussion on what protocols will be implemented in Melbourne. However, no official plan has been announced by the organizers. Many people are eager to hear this plan, which is why the CEO of the Australian Open Craig Tiley has just given an update.

Initially, the organizers wanted players to arrive in December in order to finish quarantine and play events leading up to the 1st Major of 2021. However, this has been made impossible due to a recent order.

“Late last night, the Victorian Government advised us that we will not be able to quarantine in December. We are currently seeking further details on what this means for the first 2 weeks of January and whether we wil be able to run tournaments during this time,” said Craig Tiley.

There is still no clear plan for the Melbourne Grand Slam and Titley apologized for this uncertainty. He also assured the players that they will have the information as soon as possible.

“As soon as we have the first arrival date for quarantining in Melbourne, we will be able to provide all the information and support you need to get there. We have secured the services of our travel agency to help book flights and we have had assurances that the visa process will be as simple as possible,” Tiley said.
