20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer wins people’s hearts on and off the court. A few months ago, he fulfilled the dream of a 107-year-old fan from Argentina by meeting her in person. And now, he made a nurse’s day by sending her a special message on Mother’s Day.

Christianne Calderon, who works as a critical care nurse at New York’s Presbyterian Hospital, was speaking to ESPN on Mother’s Day this Sunday. Also, she mothers two children. Calderon shared her everyday life situation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

She is a huge tennis fan and uses the competitiveness to treat the patients suffering from the deadly virus. “I don’t want to lose. And in the patient setting during this pandemic, winning is discharging the patient out of the ICU,” she said.

In the middle of the chat, Swiss legend Roger Federer popped up. As he said ‘hi,’  a trembling Calderon said, “I am shaking.”

World Number four Federer delivered a heartfelt message, and give her a title of a ‘superhero’ with sending her a Mother’s Day wishes.

“People think, we the athletes, are superheroes. But we think the same about somebody like you Christianne. You are the hero because you actually do save lives. You actually do make that difference,” Federer addressed her.

Also, NFL quarterback Eli Manning delivered a similar message to frontline worker Calderon.

Another generous donation by Roger Federer

Swiss maestro Roger Federer announced that his foundation will donate $1 million to feed the young children and their families in Africa since the schools remain shut due to the pandemic. The foundation will feed about 64,000 vulnerable people affected by the crisis in that continent.

Earlier, Mirka and Roger collectively donated one million euros to the most vulnerable groups suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic in their native country of Switzerland.
