What Are the Main Storylines After These Withdrawals?
With so many withdrawals coming in all at once, the fans would surely miss watching their favorite stars battle it out in the middle. However, as far as the impact on the tournament is concerned, nothing much is going to change as of now. For example, the likes of Draper, Rune, Fils and other male athletes, all of them made their exit before the draw was announced.
However, in case of Berettini, the Italian was scheduled to face off with Alex de Minaur. Unfortunately, having to withdraw, he sent his heartiest apologies to de Minaur. Berettini said, “I’m really sorry to have to withdraw from the tournament. I have always enjoyed being and playing here and feeling your incredible support. Thank you to the tournament for their fantastic organization and I hope to see all of you again very soon.”
Now, coming to the female athletes, the story remains pretty similar. The absence of Zheng, Collins, Jabeur, and Boisson is unlikely to have a significant impact on the draws.
Interestingly, in the absence of so many big names, rising stars like Joao Fonseca will try to capitalize. On the other hand, renowned names like Paula Badosa and Emma Raducanu also would want to bring back their lost glories.
