Kateřina Siniaková endured a bruising Miami Open outing, falling to 24-year-old Camila Osorio in a dominant 6-1, 6-4 straight-sets display. The Colombian now marches on to face Karolína Muchová. Yet the lasting image came after match point, as Siniaková exited in tears, leaving Osorio in total confusion.
At 5-4 (40-15), Camila Osorio stepped up to serve for match point. The tension was visible across the court. On the return, Kateřina Siniaková slipped and fell after getting the ball back. It was an awkward and unexpected moment.

Despite continuing the rally and eventually winning the point, Osorio immediately rushed forward. She showed concern and moved to help her opponent. However, Siniaková quickly got up on her own. She did not accept assistance and reset herself almost instantly.
What followed drew attention. The two players shared a very brief and cold handshake. The exchange appeared distant. Osorio looked visibly surprised by the moment.

Siniaková then walked to the umpire and completed the formalities. Soon after, she left the court in tears. Osorio remained on court, clearly unsure of what had just happened. Fans also reacted with confusion to the sequence.
The reaction grew stronger because Osorio is widely seen as one of the kindest players on tour. Moments like this feel unusual around her.
However, this wasn’t the first time Siniaková made headlines because of a handshake. At the Australian Open 2024, she had an icy exchange with Barbora Krejčíková. That match came after their split at the end of the 2023 season. The breakup ended a highly successful partnership.
Together, they had dominated doubles tennis for years. They won seven Grand Slam titles as a team. They also secured an Olympic gold medal for the Czech Republic. It was one of their biggest achievements.
In Melbourne, Siniaková partnered with Storm Hunter. They faced Krejčíková and Laura Siegemund in the quarter-final. The match took place on Margaret Court Arena. Many found it strange to see the former partners on opposite sides.
After the match ended, the handshake felt awkward, as there was very little emotion between the two players. They approached the net and briefly clasped hands. Then they quickly moved on to greet the other opponents.
All four players then shook hands with the chair umpire. No words were exchanged during the process. Such moments are not entirely new in tennis. Cold handshakes have occurred even among top players.
Aryna Sabalenka gives Karolína Plíšková a cold handshake after Montreal loss
The incident dates back to 2021 when Aryna Sabalenka lost 6-3, 6-4 to Karolína Plíšková in the Montreal semifinals. After the loss, Sabalenka showed visible frustration. She threw her racquet toward her chair before heading to the net.
At the net, the handshake stood out. It looked more like a quick hand tap, with Sabalenka avoiding eye contact. Plíšková did not react much. However, fans on social media strongly criticized Sabalenka’s behavior.
Later, Sabalenka addressed the moment. She apologized publicly and admitted fault, saying, “My behavior was not professional…sorry for the handshake. I just completely lost my mind in that moment.”
A similar situation appeared again at the Australian Open this year when Naomi Osaka faced Sorana Cîrstea in the second round. Osaka won the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. She moved into the third round after a competitive battle.
However, at the handshake, Cîrstea gave only a brief greeting and walked away. She then returned and confronted Osaka directly. She said, “You don’t know what fair play is, my friend. You’ve been playing for so long, and you have no idea what fair play is.”
The issue came from Osaka saying “c’mon” to herself during a key moment. This happened while Cîrstea was serving in the deciding set. Cîrstea had already raised the concern with the umpire during the match. She clearly felt it crossed a line.
Osaka seemed confused by the reaction. She later addressed it during her on-court interview. She said, “Apparently a lot of ‘come-ons’ — that’s what she was angry about — but whatever.” The comment showed her surprise.
Now, a fresh situation has emerged at the Miami Open. Kateřina Siniaková has found herself in a similar moment. Fans are again questioning what led to such an incident. The reaction has sparked debate across the tennis world.
