Rafael Nadal Triumphs Over Grigor Dimitrov in The Semifinals of ATP Acapulco 2020

The top-seed in Acapulco, Mexico Rafael Nadal is through to the finals by defeating the seventh seed Grigor Dimitrov  6-3, 6-2. The two-time champion Nadal will play his fourth final in Acapulco. The Spaniard will face Taylor Fritz from the USA in the finals.

Fritz beat his countryman John Isner in the last-four round and earned his ticket to the Acapulco finals.

First set: Rafael Nadal came back from a break down

The Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov made an ideal start of the match by taking a lead by a break at 2-1. The Spaniard couldn’t accept being break down at the beginning of the match and immediately resurged with a break back service game at 2-2.

After making a teetering start of the set, Rafael Nadal comfortably led by 4-2 as Grigor Dimitrov continued to produce unforced errors. That moment onwards, Nadal maintained his lead, but the Bulgarian was playing some challenging tennis. While holding his serve at 5-2, Nadal saved three break points.

World Number two Rafa carried out some serve and volley tennis at 5-3. With Grigor coming up a lob from the baseline, the Spaniard was baffled on the Mexican court.

Despite the tough tennis from Dimitrov, Rafael Nadal sealed the set in 47 minutes 6-3.

Second set: Nadal progressed into the finals

The seventh seed Dimitrov once again boarded to take a 2-0 lead in the set. Once more Rafa wasn’t ready to give up, he retrieved his break at 2-1. Rafa’s second serve percentage dropped in the set, nevertheless, he was clinging onto his serves.

Nadal played some aggressive game tennis on the baseline, and a witty drop shot gave him a break lead at 3-2.

Nadal continued to deliver a similar performance from the first set and the top-seed in Acapulco led by 4-2. He again came up with a break of serve for a 5-2 lead and was ready to serve for a place in the finals of Acapulco.

Thereafter he comfortably sealed his victory in the semifinals of Acapulco. And he progressed to play his fourth final in the tournament.
