“Am I Next?” – Coco Gauff Demands Justice For the Killing of George Floyd

The streets of Minneapolis, Minnesota are brimmed with protesters. Police officers killed George Floyd, an African-American while restraining him. The police officer used his knee to pin him down and ended up suffocating him. Eventually, the 46-year-old Floyd choked to death. With the growing atrocities of racism in the world, Coco Gauff was in tears after coming across the news of Floyd’s brutal killing.

On Friday, the young tennis phenom Coco announced to do her best to eradicate racism from society.

I promise to always use my platform to help make the world a better place.”

Coco Gauff raises her voice

Soon after, she raised her voice to combat racism in the United States of America. World Number 52 Gauff posted a video comprising of series of black Americans, who lost their lives through brutal killings in the nation.

Earlier this year, the Louisville police shot dead Breonna Taylor, in her own apartment. Ahmaud Arbery was shot dead in Georgia while jogging. A 17-year-old African-American teenager, Trayvon Martin, was killed in 2012. And finally, a seven-year-old girl from Detroit’s East Side, Aiyana Jones, was shot in the head by a police officer.

Following that, African-American tennis player Coco Gauff interrogated the society and said, “Am I next? I am using my voice, will you use yours?”

After Floyd’s brutal killing protests from various personalities went viral. Aussie tennis player, Nick Kyrgios also disparaged the intolerable ‘racial discrimination all around the globe.’

“What’s wrong with this world? Why do we do this to each other,” Kyrgios posted.

Mayor Jacob Frey has suspended the four police officers involved in the incident that resulted in George Floyd’s death. Moreover, throngs of people are out on the American streets to demand justice for Floyd’s murder.
