BNP Paribas Open 2020 – Injured Players List

With the first Masters event of the year, BNP Paribas Open 2020 kick-starting on March 12, some big names from men’s tennis will be missing from the tournament which includes the former champion and the defending finalist Roger Federer.

Also with the women’s track hosting their Premier Mandatory event on the same courts, the defending champion Bianca Andreescu will not be present to defend her big title in Palm Spring desert, California.

BNP Paribas Open 2020 Injured Players

Roger Federer

The two-time defending finalist Roger Federer at Indian Wells Masters 2020 will be absent from the tournament. The Swiss maestro underwent knee surgery in the month of February and consequently, he has been sidelined from the ATP Tour until the end of the clay-court season.

Juan Martin Del Potro

The 2018 Indian Wells champion Del Potro will be missing the Californian desert tournament for the second consecutive time. He still hasn’t recovered from his knee surgery in the month of June last year, and he is working on the recuperation.

Bianca Andreescu

The defending champion on the women’s track Bianca Andreescu withdrew BNP Paribas Open 2020 on Saturday. She has been dealing with a knee injury since WTA Finals 2019 and still isn’t perfectly fit to swing her racquets on the professional tour.

Angelique Kerber

WTA’s defending finalist in Tennis Paradise Angelique Kerber will not be traveling to California this year. She is dealing with a leg injury.

Kei Nishikori

The Japanese typhoon of tennis Kei Nishikori was last seen on the courts of Flushing Meadows in 2019. Later in the month of October 2019, he underwent an elbow injury and still hasn’t returned to the professional arena.

Nishikori is expected to be back on the ATP track very soon. Also with the Tokyo Olympics coming up in July this year, Nishikori aspires to acquire his best form of tennis by then.

Simona Halep

World Number two tennis player Simona Halep had triumphant 2020 so far, after reaching the semi-finals in Melbourne and later conquering the title in Dubai her stay on the WTA Tour has been perfect.

But the Romanian ace sadly withdrew from BNP Paribas 2020 due to an issue in her foot.

Andy Murray

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray‘s pelvis has been bothering him since Davis Cup 2019 Finals. The Brit is yet to play a match in 2020, and his date of return to the circuit is unknown.

Victoria Azarenka

The former BNP Paribas Open champion Victoria Azarenka played her first match of 2020 in Monterrey, Mexico last week. After losing in the first-round match there, she announced her withdrawal from the Indian Wells tournament.

Apparently, the Belarusian wants more to work on her tennis and find her lost form of the game.

Kevin Anderson

After making a quality start of season 2020, the South African ace Kevin Anderson underwent surgery on his right knee in February. His comeback to the circuit is yet to be decided.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

The Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will be absent from the Indian Wells Masters 2020 due to his ongoing issues with his back.

Guido Pella

The Argentine Guido Pella has withdrawn from the Indian Wells Masters as he is recovering from Morton’s neuroma. It’s a painful condition that affects the ball of the foot.

Elena Vesnina

The former champion in Indian Wells Elena Vesnina has been absent from the WTA Tour since French Open 2018. In October 2018 she announced her pregnancy, and she’s yet to play a professional match since then.

Vera Zvonareva

The Russian Vera Zvonareva withdrew from the WTA 125K match in Indian Wells on Saturday. She reported hip injury to be the reason for her withdrawal and consequently, she will be out from the Premier Mandatory event in California.

Thanasi Kokkinakis

The Australian player Thanasi Kokkinakis has been sidelined from the ATP Tour due to some health concerns.
