“Well, John Isner is amazing. I mean, I’ve met him a couple of times. He’s really nice. I mean, I would want to watch him play. He’s great. Honestly, he’s the No. 1 American. He’s a big inspiration for a lot of people, probably more than me,” Coco Gauff shared during the US Open 2019.

The flag-carrier of American men’s tennis Isner became the oldest man on the ATP Tour to win his first Masters title. He pulled it off at Miami Open 2018.
The American skyscraper reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon 2018 and played the longest grass-court major semifinal in the history of the tournament. The Dallas resident Isner lost with a scoreline 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 26-24 to Kevin Anderson.

Before him, Isner’s compatriot Sam Querry defeated then-World Number one and defending champion Andy Murray in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2017, and earned his ticket to the semifinals of a Grand Slam.
The men’s track of American tennis is in the quest of their Grand Slam champion since 2003. The last American man to win a Grand Slam was Andy Roddick at US Open 2003. But, in the present era, no American man could match the likes of legends Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi.

Also, former World Number one Roddick was the last American ATP player to reach the finals of a major at Wimbledon 2009. Whereas on the women’s track, since 2007, every year at least one American woman reaches the finals of a Grand Slam.
