Elina Svitolina Hopeful About Making Grand Slam Breakthrough in Later Stages of Her Career

World Number five Elina Svitolina snapped her title-less drought since WTA Finals 2018 by clinching Monterrey Open title in February this year. Despite not winning a title in 2019, the Ukrainian gave a career-best performance at Grand Slams.

Svitolina was the semifinalist at both Wimbledon and US Open, also she sprinted into the finals of the year-end tournament in 2019. 25-year-old tennis player keeps the hopes for her maiden Grand Slam title alive and she’s arduously working to conquer her first big title.

In the WTA field, some tennis players pull off their Grand Slam titles during the early years of their career, for instance, Bianca Andreescu, Jelena Ostapenko, Noami Osaka, Sofia Kenin, etc… The young women on the circuit are extremely athletic, and it certainly gives them a winning edge over others.

Whereas a few others, gain experienced made themselves firm and then moved ahead to pick up their first Major titles. She certainly looks up to players like them and wants to make her Grand Slam breakthrough with patience. Staying positive amidst the versatility in the women’s game, Elina Svitolina shared her thoughts about clinching a Major title.

“In recent years, we see that tennis players had different paths to victory. Someone won right away as soon as they announced themselves on the tour. Others patiently gained experience to finally win the major, for example, Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki. Different paths are also due to different styles of play,” she told BTU Website.

“It gives me hope and energy to work hard so that one day I can take this chance. The key point for me is to keep my best level for two weeks. This requires a lot of effort, both psychological and physical. Everything should work at the same time. And you need to add a little luck.”

Also in December 2019, she revealed her career goals and mentioned her priority is to be healthy, win a Grand Slam and ultimately attain the World Number one rankings.

In 2018, she won the WTA Finals title. Until today it remains the biggest title of her career and she’s yet to advance into the finals of Grand Slam.
