Eugenie Bouchard Goes Into Vacation Mood After Shutting Down 2020 Tennis Season

The 2020 tennis season is finally coming to an end with only a few tournaments left to be played. Some players want to end it a little early to focus more on the upcoming 2021 season. Recently, the Candian player Eugenie Bouchard posted a selfie on her Instagram and bid goodbye to this year’s season. In the caption, she wrote ‘offszn’ indicating that she wouldn’t be playing any more matches in what is left of this year.

One can expect Bouchard to take a small break from tennis, go on a vacation, and then start preparations for the 2021 season.

Bouchard last played at the qualifiers of the ITF USA 40A tournament, where she got caught up with an abdominal injury. She could not continue the match and her opponent got a walkover. This happened October 20, 2020, and since then, she has not been seen on the court to even practice.

The abdominal injury has been a cause of worry for the former World No. 5 for a long time. She faced a similar injury in 2018. However, the 26-year-old player looked good and healthy in the photo she posted and fans will hope to see her back on the court soon. Bouchard seems to be in a vacation mood of sorts!

Although Bouchard broke into the Top 150 WTA rankings, it has not been an impressive year for her. The Canadian player could not enter the main rounds of the Australian Open 2020 and lost in the third qualifier. She played well at the Prague Open 2020, where she managed to reach the quarters but lost to Elise Mertens.

The Istanbul Open 2020 was the major highlight of her 2020 season. She reached the finals of the tournament but lost to Patricia Maria Tig despite winning the first set. Bouchard skipped the US Open 2020 and returned to the court for Roland Garros 2020.

Bouchard played well until she met Iga Swiatek in the third round, who thrashed her in straight sets in that round. Swiatek went on to win the French Open 2020 title.

Then came the ITF tournament where Bouchard got injured in the qualifiers before reaching the main event. Many fans believe that she took the right call to end her season at this time. They will definitely have high expectations from her at the upcoming Australian Open 2021.
