The 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams and former Canadian number one Eugenie Bouchard have locked horns three times in their careers. The Canadian is yet to accomplish her victory against the American veteran. Their most recent encounter came at the second-round Australian Open 2019, and Serena had steamrolled over Genie 6-2, 6-2.

World Number nine Williams considers Bouchard to be a gifted talent on the WTA Tour. The American says she doesn’t really give up on the court and fights for each point. Sometimes people tend to disregard Genie, but she is not really concerned about it.

“She plays really well. She does everything well, and I really like that she doesn’t quit. You know, people write her off, and she doesn’t let that bother her. She continues to fight and do what she needs to do. I think that’s really not good,” Serena Williams said ahead of their clash in Melbourne last year.

Before their meeting in Melbourne, they play each other in Cincinnati (2013), where Bouchard lost 4-6 6-2 6-2.  Later at WTA Championships 2014, it was a one-sided 6-1 6-1 defeat for the Canadian.

“She’s the greatest ever. So it’s just so cool that I’ll be able to share the court with her and an opportunity to see how I compare to one of the best players. To me, she’s always basically No.1. I admire the longevity of her career, her dominance over such a long amount of time, how she’s come back so many times from injury, pregnancy, etc… and I love her,” Bouchard shared in 2019.
