Belinda Bencic vs Sorana Cirstea: First Set

The first set of the match was very close, and it could have gone either way. However, Bencic’s serve lost her the set 7-5. She served six double faults and less than 50% of her first serves were in. This was certainly not the start that she wanted and to have any chance at winning, she had to serve better in the second set.

The Second Set

Belinda Bencic did not start the first set well at all. She was broken in her very first service game by Cirstea, who raced to a 3-0 lead. There was a huge amount of pressure on her at this time and the Swiss star wasn’t able to handle it.

In the fourth game of the set, Bencic was broken again by Cirstea, who was playing some fantastic tennis. The Swiss star did manage to break back to keep her hopes alive, but Sorana still had the upper hand. She did not let it go and with another break of serve, she sealed the match 7-5, 6-2 to win her seventh consecutive match.

This was certainly not the match the World No. 11 expected as it means that she has been winless since February 2020. This is not a good sign for her, especially since the Australian Open begins in a few days. Hopefully, we will see her snap this losing streak there.
