Later, Eugenie Bouchard justified her refusal. She doesn’t believe in wishing luck to her opponents before the match. “It’s nothing personal towards her, I just don’t believe in wishing my opponent good luck before the match,” Bouchard said. “After we play tomorrow (Saturday), I will shake her hand no matter what happens.”

Later in the match, Dulgheru beat her in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 on her home soil. And before their after-match handshake, the Romanian ridiculed her with an epic celebration. She sprinted towards her team to shake hands with them, but then all of them deliberately faked. Following that Dulgheru came back to the net and shook hands with Genie.

Also, Bouchard refused to shake hands with Slovakia’s Kristina Kucova at the 2014 Fed Cup. Whereas her other teammates did not have any issues in shaking hands with their opponents. The Canadian Bouchard doesn’t have any superstitious notions behind not shaking hands. Later, Kucova stated it’s her decision not to shake hands and “it will be a good motivation for the match.
