With the world quarantining themselves in their residences amid coronavirus pandemic, the tennis player Caroline Garcia is quarantined on the island of Mallorca, Spain at Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy. At present, Spain is the third-most worst effected country with almost 25,000 cases. But Garcia is absolutely safe and sound in Rafa’s academy.

After her second-round exit from Australian Open 2020, she flew to Manacor to train at the world-class academy. Then post her quarterfinal defeat in her home city Lyon, Garcia came back to Manacor to practice tennis.

After canceling her travel plans to California for BNP Paribas Open, she stayed in the academy and opted to practice. A few days later, the European borders were locked. Consequently, she couldn’t fly back to her home city of Lyon, France.

“It was the best place for us to have a training period. I left with the suitcase prepared for Indian Wells. It is a small village on the island of Mallorca. There are fewer cases here,” Caroline Garcia told L’Equipe.

“There is containment, but it is much quieter than some big cities in Europe. We’re safe, we’re fine here, we wouldn’t be better elsewhere. It’s a little more Zen, a little quieter.”

In Manacor, she is not supposed to train outdoors, rather indoor arrangements have been made for her. She trains for two hours a day. Also, her parents and the rest of her team are with her.

Former World Number four Garcia’s 2019 season ended in a victorious manner. She joined forces with Kristiana Mladenovic and defeated Ashleigh Barty and Samantha Stosur in the deciding rubber of Fed Cup finals. With their victory, Team France lifted up the Fed Cup 2019 title. Last year, she won a title in Nottingham, UK after defeating Donna Vekic in the finals.
