“What Is That Match”: Iga Swiatek on Her Next Match at Australian Open 2022

Iga Swiatek, from Poland, moved into the second week at the Australian Open 2022 with an inspired 6-2, 6-3 win over Daria Kasatkina at the Margaret Court Arena. She took 94 minutes to move past in-form Kasatkina to proceed to her fourth-round match. This win makes her the only woman to reach the fourth round of the last six Grand Slam tournaments.

Iga Swiatek impresses on court

Iga Swiatek displayed skill and agility when she clutched the important points to move into her third second week at the Australian Open. The 20-year-old overcame Kasatkina by saving eight of nine break points against her and converting four. While Kasatkina showed sparks of brilliance, she could not take advantage of crucial points, leading Swiatek to step up in key moments.

World No. 6 acknowledged how hard it was to overcome Kasatkina, and said that her opponent uses a topspin and has a similar grip which makes it tricky to optimize on a shot.

In her post-match interview, she said, At the end all that mattered was who was going to put that ball over the net because the rallies were pretty long

It was the second meeting between the two, and the Russian, has won their first encounter. Swiatek mentioned that she made adjustments to her strategy by identifying her own mistakes to prepare for her Australian Open match.

She also found the match quite intense. “I had to attack a couple of times during one point… I tried to play my balls pretty low, so she can’t play her top spins.” She added.

While she played extremely well in her third-round match. Swiatek also managed to make the crowd laugh during her on-court interview. When asked if she knows who her next opponent will be, her reaction was what the crowd found funny.

“I try not to look at the draw, so basically, after every match, I have to ask someone who I’m playing against,” she later clarified. She meets the winner of the match between Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Sorana Cirstea.
