Donald Cerrone says he was under-prepared in his previous match-up with Conor McGregor. But that will not be the case at UFC 249.

Donald Cerrone last fought at UFC 246 this January. He faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Irishman, as he was knocked out within 40 seconds of the first round. Donald Cerrone says there was a lot that went behind his poor performance that night. But he has identified those areas. He will walk into his next fight as a more ‘present’ fighter.

Speaking at UFC 249’s virtual press conference, Donald Cerrone revealed he wasn’t prepared to face Conor McGregor. But he will be ready this time around. He has signed on to fight Anthony Pettis in a rematch at UFC 249 in Florida on May 9.

Cerrone said, “It’s not that I didn’t know I didn’t want to be there. It’s just like I didn’t feel prepared. I feel like I didn’t I let the ifs and should haves weigh heavy on me. I’m not sitting here and making excuses, but the wrong guy definitely showed up and I paid heavily for it. I was an embarrassment man. I made it 40 seconds. Went in there and took a little nap.”

Donald Cerrone isn’t going to repeat his mistakes

But Cerrone says it’s not time to sit and feel sorry for himself. It’s time to wake up and make amends. Donald Cerrone said, “What are you going to do, man! You’re going to have to dust off, get back on the saddle and do it again. That’s who I am, and that’s what I preach. Here I am on two weeks’ notice going to Jacksonville. I am going to kick some ass, fight on Wednesday, fight again on Saturday. Then I’m going to have enough money, I’ll buy a private jet and fly my ass back home. That’s that.”
