The Adria Tour was an exhibition event that was conducted by Novak Djokovic. While many people did enjoy watching the event, it had some negative effects. Many players including Novak himself got infected with the coronavirus that is spreading all over the world.

There were many people who criticized the Serb for conducting the event and not following social distancing guidelines. Seeing this, Novak’s former coach Boris Becker has just defended him. Check out what he said.

Boris Becker Defends Novak Djokovic

Boris Becker coached Novak Djokovic from 2014-16 which were Novak’s most successful years. Despite their split, Boris has said that they still have a good relationship. And this is why Boris defended his former student when he say that people were criticizing him. In a recent talk with The Telegraph, he said,

“I want to defend Novak a little. I think the criticism he gets is unfair, and that the reason everybody showed up was the right one. Yes, the partying and the basketball perhaps weren’t necessary. But I used to be 30 years old, and when I see my friends I like to enjoy myself.”

The partying was something that has been criticized by a lot of people and Nick Kyrgios was one of them. He wished a speedy recovery to the people that were infected but he also said that it happened because they disregarded all protocols by partying and doing other activities.

There has also been many questions raised about the 2020 tennis season. Many tennis players are worried about the impact that the recent COVID-19 cases will have on the season. The ATP has not mentioned any changes but they will be expected to increase their safety measures.

Above all, every single person will be hoping that the players infected will recover soon. And that we will be able to see them play when the ATP Tour returns in August. Hopefully, that is exactly what will happen.
